Ready, Set, Whisk! Across the country, student chefs have been cooking up change! On May 21, t eams from Chicago, Denver, Jacksonville, Santa Ana, St. Louis and Winston-Salem faced off in the Cooking up Change national finals in Washington, DC. The next day, students took part in a Congressional briefing on the future of school food, where one dish from each team's meal was presented for lunch. What did each team create? Congratulations, Santa Ana! Congratulations to high school culinary students Alex, Ashley and Ivan of Santa Ana, Calif., who are taking home the Cooking up Change trophy for their healthy school lunch of lemon and spinach chicken with Tuscan bean salad and cinnamon poached pears! Congratulations as well to Chicago student chefs Shaenice, Kaliah, and Jerome who won honorable mention for outstanding presentation. Kudos to all the remarkable student chefs! |
