Heroes for Healthy Schools: Coming together for student wellness and achievement is a partnership of the Office of Minority Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Chicago Public Schools Nutrition Support Services; and Healthy Schools Campaign.


Office of Minority Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (OMH) is dedicated to improving the health of racial and ethnic minority populations through the development of health policies and programs that will help eliminate health disparities. OMH addresses disease prevention, health promotion, risk reduction, healthier lifestyle choices, use of health care services, and barriers to health care.OMH works in partnership with communities and organizations in the public and private sectors. These collaborations support a systems approach for eliminating health disparities, national planning to identify priorities, and coordinated responses through focused initiatives. Healthy Schools Campaign, an independent not-for-profit organization, is a leading authority on healthy school environments and a voice for people who care about our environment, our children, and education. Since beginning as a local project in Chicago in 2002, HSC has grown into a vibrant national organization with diverse strategic partnerships and effective outreach to schools, communities, and policy-makers. As we work for policy change and market transformation on a national level, we continue to pioneer new strategies through our Chicago programs, particularly projects focused on healthy food and physical activity in schools. Chicago Public Schools Nutrition Support Services Chicago Public Schools Nutrition Support Services supports the district's instructional programs by providing nutritious and appealing meals and quality service to every student, every school day. Nutrition Support Services' goals are aimed at making sure students receive healthy, nutritious and appetizing meals that will ultimately contribute to their success in the learning environment.
