The 21st Century School Fund, Critical Exposure and Healthy Schools Campaign are pleased to announce the second Through Your Lens photo contest. We invite students, teachers and everyone with a view of our nation’s school buildings to show the world what you see every day at school: the good parts, the troubling parts, the things you’re proud of and the things you’d like to change.

Prizes

  • Selected photos and stories will be shown at a special exhibition in Washington DC.
  • Many more entries will be published in a Through Your Lens book and in an online gallery.
  • Five student winners will receive an Insignia Digital Camcorder with 3" LCD Screen!

Judging Panel

Through Your Lens is judged by a panel of photographers, writers and advocates. The judging panel includes renowned photographers Callie Shell, Matt Slaby and Ami Vitale; Rachel Gutter, Director of the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council; and student judge Ian Starks, a winner of the 2009-10 Through Your Lens contest.

Judging Criteria

The judging panel will select photos and stories that show how a school building—its classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, athletic facilities, cafeteria, offices, fields—supports or hampers:

• Teaching and learning
• The environment
• Teacher or student physical or mental health
• Community vitality

Judges considered whether the entry is:

  • Inspiring (Does it make me want to act?)
  • Entertaining (Does it make me want to tell my friends about it?)
  • Clear Message (Is the message easy to understand?)
  • Originality (Does it convey the message in a unique and creative way?)
