Tools for Schools Conference
Mark Bishop, State Policy
Director, and Louella Hung, Outreach Director, participated in
the US EPA’s Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Conference
in October. Over 500
people from across the country met for three days in
“In 1997, I participated in a similar EPA event where there were 20 public health professionals in attendance wondering where the schools were. At this event, the participants varied from school administrators to facility directors, health professionals and architects,” said Mark Bishop.

Addresses
Gathering of School Environmental Health Activists
Senator Clinton, who has been a strong advocate for making schools environmentally healthy places to learn and work, addressed a gathering of the National Healthy Schools Coalition. Mark Bishop, State Policy Director, participated in the day-long meeting with activists from eight other states. At the meeting advocates from the Healthy Schools Network addressed the need to create a unified voice for school environmental health issues.
Association of School Boards Conference
HSC hosted a Carousel of Panels at the 71st
Joint Annual Conference of the Illinois Association of School
Boards, the Illinois Association of School Administrators, and
the Illinois Association of School Business Officials on
November 22 in
HSC’s work with the Chicago Public
Schools to explore “green cleaning” continues with 10
schools participating in pilot programs. The 10 schools are

Superintendent to examine the problem of childhood obesity and
explore ways in which the schools can promote healthy eating
