Eligibility

Who is eligible to participate?

There is a very limited time for a small number of school districts to participate in this pilot project for the 2009-2010 school year. Applicants will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis and only the first 30 applications are guaranteed of submission into the program.

This program is currently limited to the Northern Illinois PJM transmission territory, which is most easily identified as the ComEd service territory.

Each building is required to have an electric meter that records your consumption on an hourly basis. Many schools already have these. For those who need to install meters, the meters cost approximately $500 - $700 and must be installed and operational by April 30, 2009.

If your district has multiple schools, you may participate on a building-by-building basis and do not need to sign up all schools. To maximize the benefits of the program, it is preferable that all or many of your buildings are included.

Participating schools must be able to commit to the following logistics:

  • Frequency. You agree to implement your energy reduction plan up to 10 times in a given year.
  • Hours. The agreement will require your school to implement your electricity reductions on peak demand days for no more than a six-hour span. Hours are also limited to weekdays - never on a weekend or holiday.
